About Us

r-m-welch-logoWhen I joined the seed trade in the early 1960's the largest single crop was grass, the supply chain was vast and ryegrass was still grown around Alford, Aberdeenshire.

The Carse of Gowrie and Carse of Stirling produced Timothy (and still do).  While the English growers in the Eastern Counties supplied Perennial Ryegrass, Italian Ryegrass, Cocksfoot and Red & White Clovers.

Arable farming has reduced the herbage acreages over the last 50 years and with it the number of trained or true seedsmen, who blend to order on their own premises.

The main ryegrass growing areas are in mainland Europe with Dutch and Danish companies dominating the trade.  Timothy, Red and White Clovers are grown in Canada and New Zealand respectively.  We ship container loads of H.V.S. stock from around the world and blend it for our customers all over the U.K.

The company is ably assisted by Elsie Welch, Neil Rennie, Douglas Welch, Paul Goulding and Marion Burnett.

R. M. Welch & Son Ltd. was established in 1970 and operates from the premises previously owned by the well respected Laird & Sinclair Seedsmen & Nurserymen, Dundee.

My father Robert Mitchell Welch believed in quality mixtures and good service during a lifetime service with Laird & Smith, Cupar and Laird & Sinclair, Dundee.

We at R. M. Welch & Son Ltd. are here to serve you along my father's traditional lines.

Yours' Aye,

Bruce T. Welch

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
